Introduction

The NFU Network

Ownership infrastructure for the physical world — giving real-world items a persistent identity, verifiable provenance and trusted exchange.

Money has infrastructure. Communications have infrastructure. Information has infrastructure. Ownership of real-world items still depends on paper certificates, separate databases and trusted intermediaries — records that get lost, drift away from the item, or can’t be checked by the next person who buys it.

What it does

Each item gets its own permanent record on the XRP Ledger, called an NFU (Non-Fungible Utility). The record is linked to the physical item by a mark or QR code, sits in the owner’s own wallet, and goes with the item every time it changes hands.

An example: a gemstone

A laboratory grades a diamond and inscribes it with a short code. Scanning the code opens the stone’s record: its certificate, its current owner, and every record added since. Years later a registered valuer carries out an insurance revaluation. The figure stays private — only a fingerprint of the document goes on the record, so the owner can prove the valuation is genuine without publishing it. When the stone is sold, its whole history goes with it, and a jeweller or pawnbroker can check at the counter that the person offering the stone really controls the wallet that owns it.

The same approach applies to watches, art, collectables, auction lots and industrial parts — anything whose value depends on knowing what it is, where it has been and who owns it now.

Where things stand. The NFU Network is pre-launch. It is built and working on the XRP Ledger’s test network, where it can be demonstrated end to end, including a working gemstone service. It is not yet in commercial operation. The core method is patent-pending.

What we’re looking for

Conversations with organisations and people for whom a lasting, checkable record of an item’s life matters:

If this is relevant to your organisation, tell us a little about it and the founder will reply personally — usually to arrange a 20–30 minute live demonstration. Fuller technical and commercial material is available under a confidentiality agreement if there is a fit.

Your details are used only to reply to you. They aren’t added to any mailing list.
